Jim Cunningham MP Welcomes Changes to Organ Donation Law

jcorg.jpgCoventry South MP, Jim Cunningham, welcomed the decision taken today in Parliament to change organ donation laws.

Following a two year campaign by the Daily Mirror, MPs today voted to change the law to make 'opt out' organ donation.

After the vote today, Jim said; “There are around 6,500 people across the UK waiting for an organ transplant and I sympathise profoundly with anyone who is affected. Transplants save lives and improve quality of life. I believe that there is a lot more to do to ensure as many people as possible in the UK receive the transplant they need.

"The decision today means that up to 500 lives a year could be saved across England. I'm hoping that this could make a real difference for individuals and their families across not only Coventry South but across the entire country.

"I pay tribute to the long campaign that has lead to this monumental decision and to the efforts of my Parliamentary colleagues. Particularly my fellow Coventry MP Geoffrey Robinson"
