Job description: Communications Officer

 

Closing Date: 12 noon 13 January 2017

Job Title: Communications Officer (hours negotiable)

Working For: Jim Cunningham MP

Location: Coventry

Salary: In line with IPSA payscales

 

Job Details

Jim Cunningham MP, Member of Parliament for Coventry South, is looking for a Communications Officer to join his busy constituency office. The role will involve handiling policy casework, liasing with local media and groups as well as providing brfieings and undertaking some research on local issues.

Job Description

Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports

Attending surgeries and other meetings as appropriate

Dealing with standard queries from members of the public

Draft responses to constituents

Establish a social media presence in the constituency and publicise surgeries etc.

Follow up on social media queries and comments

Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases

Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken

Preparing media briefings

Pro-active and re-active communications with all media

Publicise the Member’s parliamentary duties on FB and Twitter

Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act

 

Personal Specification

Disciplined self-starter with the ability to work unsupervised and to manage and prioritise a challenging workload

Awareness and understanding of current political issues

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Understands the role and needs of an MP’s office

 

Desirable but not essential:

A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle

Previous experience of working in Parliament or a political environment.

 

Please note that some flexibility is required in this role as hours and days worked may sometimes vary depending on workloads.

 

The closing date may be brought forward should a suitable applicant be found prior to 13th January.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

 

 

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will be arranged upon application and should take place within a week of applying. The successful candidate should be able to start in early February but this may be negotiable.

Job Details

Jim Cunningham MP, Member of Parliament for Coventry South, is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to support his work in Parliament. The successful applicant must be able to work to tight deadlines and manage a challenging workload, both independently and working closely with the constituency office.

Job Description

Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues;

Providing research briefings for Parliamentary debates and key policy issues

Drafting Parliamentary questions and correspondence

Supporting Mr Cunningham in his Parliamentary duties, including with bills, Early Day

Motions, and speeches

Provide generalist admin support;

Managing and monitoring all communications to the Westminster Office

Maintaining a strong link between Westminster and the Constituency Office

Undertaking specific policy casework as appropriate
