Prime Minister Theresa May has called a snap election, due to be held on June 8th.
Jim Cunningham, MP for Coventry South said: “The Prime Minister’s decision to hold an early General Election is one more example on a long list of Tory broken promises and u-turns. However, I welcome the General Election to be held on June 8th. This election will give the Labour Party the opportunity to offer the country an alternative to the current Tory Government. The Labour Party is committed to standing up for people. The NHS and our social care system are in a crisis, schools are dramatically underfunded, and increasing numbers of people are in a precarious position, employed on zero-hours contracts.I have seen first-hand how the Tory policies of austerity have affected the people of Coventry South, and a Labour Government offers the opportunity for real change. I will be fighting hard against the Tories in Coventry South. Some of the main issues I will be campaigning on are to protect our NHS from the crippling cuts imposed by this Tory Government, protecting the vital Greenbelt land in Coventry, but most importantly, I want to protect local services, jobs and businesses during Brexit, now, more than ever before, we must come together to avoid the immeasurably damaging ‘hard Brexit’, proposed by Theresa May’s Government”Join Jim's campaign today by clicking here.
